Charging A Car Battery

It can take anywhere from 4 to 12 hours to charge a car battery. It is important for you to prepare the battery properly before you attempt to charge it. Check the owner’s manual to see if the battery must be removed before you charge it. Make sure that all of the electronics are turned off before you charge the vehicle. Remove the negative cable and then remove the positive one. Clean your battery terminal next. Protect yourself by using hand, eye and face protection.

The final step is to connect the battery charger. Let your battery charge on the lowest setting. Take your battery off the charger as soon as the charging is complete. Do not touch the controls unless the charger is off. There are some chargers that have an indicator or meter that will tell you when it is safe to remove the cables.
